Four generations.
One accommodation in the Bavarian Forest.
It all began with great-grandmother Emma Eibl and an inn in the Bavarian Forest. Today, four generations later, Diana and Stefan stand in the same spot – upholding the same values but with a whole host of new ideas.
Let’s start from the beginning.
It all began with a licence to run a restaurant. Stefan’s great-great-grandfather, Fritz Eibl, thus laid the foundations for a hospitality tradition spanning almost 130 years. In 1940, he handed the house over to his daughter Emma Eibl, who married Georg Brunner shortly afterwards. The inn “Zum Bayerischen Wald” became “Eibl-Brunner”. The name has remained the same to this day. And the spirit, too.
The first guest rooms.
The opening of the first guest rooms marked the first step towards becoming a hotel. In 1962, Sigrid and Edgar Brunner took over the inn and turned it into a lively meeting place for guests, local clubs, and the Lomitzky Band.
The holiday hotel.
In the early 1970s, Sigrid and Edgar converted the inn into a hotel with around 100 beds. In 1988, the current main building was constructed, comprising 19 rooms and a new kitchen.
The next generation.
Doris and Stefan Brunner took over the business and ushered in a new era: the first sauna area was created, followed by a Finnish sauna, a bio sauna, a steam bath, and a plunge pool. The rooms were completely refurbished for the first time in the mid-1990s.
A new shine.
Over a period of 110 days – from March to June – the team, working alongside the site manager, completely transformed the hotel: a new indoor and outdoor swimming pool, and a completely redesigned restaurant and buffet area. Further substantial investments followed in 2016.
Quality enhancement.
The next major step in improving quality followed in 2016: the bed wing, which was built in the 1970s, was demolished and replaced by a completely new building with 39 new double rooms. In addition, a new spa area was created, which now houses our Forest Spa, including a new sauna area and fitness centre.
Diana and Stefan.
In January 2021, Diana and Stefan Brunner became the 4th generation to run the hotel. With Elena and Luisa as daily inspiration and a clear goal: to leave the Eibl-Brunner – and the world – a little bit better.
New rooms.
15 rooms in the main building were refurbished, and 12 new rooms and suites were opened in the WALD category – the Deluxe WALD Spa Suite, Premium WALD Spa Suite, WALD Spa Studio, WALD Studio, and WALD Lounge. A new sun terrace was also added in the garden.
The indoor play area.
Since August 2024, our younger guests have had their own area: double slide, climbing frames, ball pit, push-along cars, building blocks, and a painting corner. Eibl-Brunner grows – while remaining true to itself.
A fresh take on the forest experience.
With the redesign of the bar and entrance area, we’ll be marking another milestone in the development of our establishment in 2026. Inspired by nature, new lounge areas are being created that uniquely combine the experience of arriving, feeling at ease, and relaxing. A place that reflects our values and tradition – authenticity, high quality, and our own forest philosophy.
